The original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the company with Jerry Greenfield, announced how he plans to personally create this new flavor as part of an individual series highlighting causes the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest announcement intensifies the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced via an Instagram video how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which match those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever transferring their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which originally established in 2016 to support ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts and Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed how he plans to develop other frozen dessert varieties that address issues that the company was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned from the company recently, following decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been undermined following Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen commented how "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
