The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl harboring multiple personalities inside her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct personas, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though other scenes depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that seem trivial to other people can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Figures in the lobby have large flowers growing from their heads are. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
