Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring continental glory and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I refuse to lead another team within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I might decide in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he revealed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, however, dining out with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears for example.”
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for all the boys as well. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
