The American champion Confident of Being 'in prime form' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in an excellent position" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, following securing a place on the rostrum for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn finished the course in a time of 1:20.60. She was just over a third of a second behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Injury

Vonn stepped away from competition in February 2019 due to persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in late 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With less than two months remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts one gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"In Cortina, I will be fully ready," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the overall super-G standings.

This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races taking place before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
