New Particulars Come to Light About the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Bodies

Recent details have emerged about the untimely passing of renowned director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report citing a confidential source, a massage therapist arriving for an appointment was the first to notice something was wrong after failing to get inside the home. The therapist then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives in the vicinity.

After gaining access to the house, Romy came upon her father's body. It is said she then left the home distraught, not realizing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had gone with her then dialed 911. Afterward, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, including the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently being held and is ineligible for bail.

Disputed Reports

The confidential informant also disputed several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a separate structure on the estate, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that time.

Additionally refuted widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's actions in recent weeks. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

This refutation also extends to descriptions of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a gathering hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. Although the source noted they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they asserted that claims of a "blow-up" between the two were inaccurate.

Investigation Timeline

Per law enforcement sources, the coroner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts noted the state of their bodies suggested they had been deceased for a number of hours.

Nick Reiner was taken into custody at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, roughly 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would not appear until no sooner than Wednesday.
