LA Resident Charged of Assisting Hamas in October 7 Attack on Israeli Territory, American Authorities Allege

American prosecutors have accused a LA inhabitant of taking part in the October 7 raid by Hamas on Israeli soil, according to newly unsealed legal documents.

Mahmoud Amin Ya'qub al-Muhtadi, thirty-three, allegedly armed himself and joined a paramilitary group that engaged alongside the organization in the 2023's attack that killed over a thousand Israelis, sparking two years of fighting that resulted in the deaths of many additional individuals.

A year following the incident, he supposedly travelled to the United States on a fraudulent entry permit and obtained status as a permanent resident.

Mr al-Muhtadi was indicted with supplying, attempting to provide or conspiring to provide assistance to a foreign terrorist organization and the deception and improper use of a visa or additional papers.

Reported Role with Armed Faction

The defendant was reportedly an operative of the NRB, the military wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, as stated in the complaint brought by the FBI.

He is accused of organizing a "group of militants" to cross into Israeli territory upon learning about the attack and requested one individual to "carry the firearms", court documents show.

Mr al-Muhtadi dispatched communications instructing others to bring a bulletproof vest for a different individual and ammunition, prosecutors allege.

A short time following the 7 October assault started, his mobile device pinged a cell tower near Kibbutz Kfar Aza, the location of a massacre, the records said.

Legal Process and Response

The legal document said that Mr al-Muhtadi rejected ever having been involved in terrorist activities on his American visa application.

After coming to the United States, he lived in a handful of locations before settling in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he worked in a local eatery.

He was taken into custody on the past Thursday, the Justice Department said.

During a court appearance in Louisiana on Friday, he was questioned if he understood the charges facing him, an translator rendered his answer as "affirmative, but there are a lot of points stated in this document that are so false, I'm innocent", according to sources.

The documents do not charge the defendant of specific crimes or killings. Federal attorneys have previously charged high-ranking individuals of Hamas with the fatalities of US nationals on 7 October.
