Place one or two ice cubes atop the soil. The concept posits while the ice melts, it slowly dispenses water, allowing the root system ample time to drink in it and avoiding waterlogged conditions.

The Detailed Method
This approach is most effective for compact containers and varieties that dislike wet feet, for instance orchids. However, the majority of warmth-loving indoor plants are averse to chilly conditions. A plant's root structures evolved for warmth, and cold water can damage or injure them. Room temperature plays a significant role in the hack's effectiveness: in a heated space, the ice will dissolve rapidly, giving minimal advantage, whereas in a chilly area it may remain too long, lowering the temperature of the roots and impeding absorption. Always use ice cubes are made from clean, filtered water and avoid force them directly against plant stems or exposed roots.

The Trial
I tried on a Phalaenopsis. Two cubes weekly resulted in the roots consistently hydrated without sogginess. In contrast, using the same method on a Calathea resulted in brown edges at the leaf edges, a telltale symptom of chill damage.

The Final Assessment
The cube method might be effective for Phalaenopsis, however it isn't suited for many tropical houseplants and depends significantly on ambient temperature. Therefore, this method is not recommended; lukewarm water given gradually is still the most reliable way to properly hydrate your leafy friends.
