NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage features live text for the weekend matchups on multiple platforms, starting with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Additionally, radio commentary can be heard on select stations for another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
It's week six of the football calendar and after last week's talk regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both surrendered their perfect starts.
Notable in those games were the number of penalties each committed. The Eagles committed them in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns going into the final quarter against the Denver Broncos, set to play in London this Sunday.
But it was good to observe that Denver quarterback Bo Nix managed to overcome that deficit before lead three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, to win the victory 21-17.
The Broncos have the defensive player of the year in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are first in red zone defence, while the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, yet the Broncos won that contest.
They executed effective strategies regarding simulated pressure. They weren't always rushing more than four pass rushers but they might position two linebackers in the interior then withdrawing them and dispatch a nickel off the edge.
At the start in the campaign, it was noted on a program how the Broncos could be the current year's surprise contenders. They finished the previous year strongly and did a good job of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's dark horses?
New tight end Evan Engram has excelled big while new running back their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He now ranks 5th league-wide in ground gains (402) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).
I love that the coach Sean Payton has "RUSH!" at the top on his call sheet.
That shows that the Broncos represent a team aiming to prioritize the run, because one can do a lot off the back of that. It slows opposing rushes while keeps you in favourable situations.
This has helped quarterback the young passer, who entered into the league as a first-round selection in the prior draft, passing for 29 TDs – just behind Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to pass anywhere, but they lack in the same way as Nix. He has exceptional arm talent, which is different, and he is so athletic.
His assets include his mobility, being able to pass while moving, as well as using different arm angles to make the pass as he moves outside protection, on rollouts. He can throw that layered pass over the middle and past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he displays great composure in the pocket and isn't really fazed by extra rushers. He tries to avoid a sack whenever possible and can pass in tight spots. He possesses sharp intelligence and is very decisive.
If you consistently run the ball it consumes time and forces the defence to be in play extended periods, and when you have an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the area downfield side to side. It can be draining.
The quarterback has bitten back with the coach on the sideline at times and I think Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. In my view it's exciting for him to have a rookie QB who's similar to moldable clay. The coach can really develop him how he wants to build it. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173, tying for 14th). He's seen it all. I think the success Denver are having offensively is mostly due to his guidance, his play-calling, his game sense – and the pairing with the QB aids make him what he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to help you during some of the tougher situations and boost confidence.
I have faith in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they strong enough to go against an elite team at full strength? Since that wasn't championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.
Currently, it's unlikely the Broncos are incredible. They're working above average, which is a solid position to be in the AFC West. All they need is is maintain this path.
They're really good at leaning into their forte, that is the ground game, and that's exactly what they should do versus the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, in essence.
New York have surrendered 140 yards on the ground each contest (sixth worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad yet to win any game.
Since the NFL began tracking turnovers decades ago, the Jets are the inaugural squad to be without a single takeaway in five outings, which is surprising when you think that their new coach Aaron Glenn defensive co-ordinator with another team.
The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
After this Sunday's game, the Broncos face a smooth-ish schedule up to their bye (in week twelve) - the New York Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs are 2-3 while Denver are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could make a run at leading the division.
This hinges on what version Kansas City shows up they face since Denver {beat|def
