A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.

Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before running away.
